When Fate Steps In: Potential Kitchen Disaster Averted

NOTE: THIS IS NOT MY KITCHEN! But it almost was.

The other day the dishwasher was full and needed to be started. I knew we were out of dishwasher detergent, so I thought to myself: dawn would be an ok substitute. Luckily, before I went to the dawn, I checked the dishwasher detergent. It was pretty empty. But Gas Monkey must have been in a similar situation earlier, because he added water to the dishwasher detergent. Instead of using dawn, I used the watered-down dishwasher detergent. It did not do a spanking job, but whatever.

Yesterday, I was with my supervisor checking out potential lodgings for a conference we are holding next year. On the dishwashers in the room a sign said, "DO NOT USE DAWN IN THE DISHWASHER! We have provided dishwasher detergent." Everybody started laughing, but I was confused. What is the big deal? As my supervisor began telling me about the disastrous consequences, I counted my lucky stars. Thank goodness I had watered down detergent - otherwise I would have had my most entertaining kitchen disaster to date.
